How does SJC assist new students to adapt to the new environment?
Adaptation Week is an excellent opportunity for students joining at the beginning of the academic year to socialise, make new friends, meet the teachers of the school and understand the routine of their new school. Students joining in the middle of the school year will be assigned with the monitor of the class who will take care of the student and help them settle appropriately. Moreover, teachers will hold presentations and team building activities during homeroom for the new child to feel welcome.
How does SJC communicates with parents?
There are many different channels for parents to communicate with SJC. We send out weekly circulars every Friday to our Pre-Nursery and Kindergarten sections concerning their child. We also provide handbooks to parents.
Parents are also free to contact their child’s teachers through:
- Your child’s handbook
- Your SJC provided email
- Classdojo
- Calling the SJC school office.
- Various parent-teacher conferences scheduled throughout the academic year.
How do parents get involved with the SJC community?
SJC encourages parents to be involved in school activities and provides many volunteer opportunities. Parents can provide their details to volunteer during Adaptation Week by filling in the Google Form accordingly.
SJC will contact you directly prior to school activities and events to check your availability.

Is there a school bus service?
We have established a partnership with A1818 Limited for the provision of daily transportation of our students in our Pre-Nursery, Kindergarten and Primary sections. For more information, please contact our school office directly.
Do you provide school lunch? Can my child bring their own lunch?
Yes, SJC provides school lunches daily. For our Kindergarten section, lunch will be included within the usage fee. For our Primary section, parents can choose to join the SJC monthly lunch plan or prepare their own packed lunch.
Parents are also welcome to drop off the lunch during the period before our scheduled lunch for their child to enjoy a warm meal.

How do I apply?
Parents can apply by submitting our online application, found in our Applying to SJC page.
Please note that registration is not completed until parents have received acknowledgement of application and the application fee has been duly paid.
Does my child need to be a resident of Hong Kong to apply to SJC?
Applicants who have not yet received Hong Kong residential status may apply to SJC. We welcome applications from all nationalities.
However, before enrolling at SJC, proof must be provided that the applicants meet Hong Kong Immigration requirements for entry to a school in Hong Kong prior to enrollment. Please visit the Hong Kong Immigration Department website for their requirements.
Does my child have to take an entrance exam to move to the next section at SJC?
No. SJC students who complete Pre-Nursery or Kindergarten are eligible to move directly into our SJC Kindergarten or Primary section respectively without any additional entrance exams.
Does my child need to be in Hong Kong to apply?
St. Johannes College was founded to enhance, broaden and support the educational choice of families.
We accept applications from both the local and international communities in Hong Kong.
What are the tuition fees?

In addition to tuition fees, payment of other fees such as usage fee, ECA/CCA fees, uniform, lunch and school bus are required before student registration is complete. Fees vary according to grade level. Fees charged are subject to EDB’s approval.
CURRICULUM & LEARNING
What curriculum does SJC follow?
We follow the guidelines provided by the Education Bureau (EDB) for the local curriculum, whilst implementing and adapting our curriculum to a high standard for the needs of our students and requirements to attain high academics and prepare them for their future.
What is the assessment process at SJC?
SJC Pre-Nursery students are provided Student Growth Portfolios with teachers’ observations at the end of each trimester. Once Pre-Nursery is complete, they are eligible to move directly into our SJC Kindergarten section without any additional entrance exams.
SJC Kindergarten students are provided with Progress Report Cards at the end of each trimester.
SJC Primary students are assessed by a Final Summative Assessment at the end of every trimester in addition to formative assessment conducted within class which includes unit summaries, projects and presentations
How many subjects does SJC offer?
Across Pre-Nursery, we teach 10 different subjects.
Across Kindergarten, we teach 9 different subjects.
Across Primary, we teach 10 different subjects.
What is the language of instruction at SJC?
Since its establishment in 1962, SJC has always adopted English as the medium of instruction across all campuses and within all subjects, but with Chinese language taught every day.
Our students are able to establish multiple skills, acquire a high proficiency in English and become equally fluent in Chinese Language to unify high bilingual skills to enable a deep appreciation of two separate spectrums.

At SJC we pride ourselves on small- class instruction in order to build a strong student-teacher relationship and engaged learning. The current teacher:student ratio is as follows:

What kind of extra-curricular/co-curricular activities does SJC offer?
We have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities (ECAs) that are curated by our faculty and provided within each term at SJC.
For our Kindergarten section, we offer five (5) seasonal STEAM ECAs over the academic year.
For our Primary section we offer Ghanaian Bead Craft, Handball, Rugby, Football, Netball, Interview Preparation, STEM, Choir, Table Tennis, Clay-Model Making, Debate and many more which are split into two terms.
What is the homework policy?
Homework is a valuable aid to help students make the most of their school experience. Homework strengthens academic skills, reinforces concepts learned in class, encourages students to develop responsibility and study habits. Teachers will assign homework based on the grade level.
Do parents have to help with homework?
Parents are not expected to help SJC students with their homework. However, parents of younger students are strongly encouraged to read with their child as it forms an integral part of their language development.
